— In Search of a Salon-Like Space Where Art, People, and Conversation Come Together —
My name is Tetsuro Higashi, and I am a Japanese fine art photographer based in Tokyo.
I am currently looking for venues or individuals who would be interested in providing a space to exhibit my photographic works.
I am not necessarily seeking a traditional art gallery or museum.
Rather, I am particularly attracted to the idea of a space resembling a French artistic salon — a welcoming and intimate environment where people can gather, appreciate art, enjoy a glass of wine, exchange ideas, and engage in meaningful conversations.
Such a place might be a wine bar, café, restaurant, lounge, private club, cultural salon, or a small independent gallery.
Even a modest wall space within an establishment would be welcome.
What matters most to me is creating an opportunity for art and people to encounter one another naturally.
About My Photography
I have devoted many years to creating fine art photography, primarily focusing on the human figure, particularly the beauty and expressive qualities of women.
My work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Rencontres d’Arles photography festival in France, as well as exhibitions in Paris, Beijing, Istanbul, and Antwerp.
My artistic interests include the beauty of the human form, natural gestures, the relationship between light and shadow, and the quiet emotional presence of the individual.
Many of my photographs feature artistic female nudity. However, my intention is never simply to depict the naked body.
Instead, I approach the human figure as a subject of fine art, exploring its sculptural beauty, emotional depth, and visual harmony, much as painters have done throughout art history.
My portfolio also includes portraits, traditional Japanese kimono photography, images inspired by the historical world of the oiran (Japanese courtesans), and black-and-white fine art photography.
Regarding the Exhibition of Nude Photography
A significant portion of my work consists of artistic nude photography.
However, I fully understand that such images may not be appropriate for every venue or audience.
If nude photography is unsuitable for a particular location, I would be very happy to exhibit non-nude works instead.
These could include portraits, women wearing traditional Japanese kimono, photographs celebrating Japanese cultural aesthetics, or other artistic images without nudity.
I do not insist on exhibiting nude photographs.
I would always respect the character, atmosphere, clientele, and policies of the venue.
The selection of photographs would be discussed and agreed upon in advance with the venue owner or organizer.
Types of Venues I Am Looking For
I would welcome opportunities to exhibit my photographs in places such as:
- Wine bars, cocktail bars, jazz bars, and other intimate venues
- Cafés, restaurants, and coffeehouses
- Private lounges, cultural salons, and members’ clubs
- Small galleries and independent art spaces
- Hotel lounges, reception areas, and suitable commercial spaces
- Any other location where fine art photography could be displayed and appreciated
The space does not need to be large.
Even a small exhibition of just a few photographs can transform the atmosphere of a room and offer visitors a new artistic experience.
I am open to discussing exhibition duration, the number and size of photographs, installation arrangements, and any practical or financial conditions.
An Invitation to Venue Owners and Art Lovers
I believe that displaying photography can bring a distinctive artistic atmosphere to a venue.
For a café, restaurant, or bar, an exhibition may offer guests something unexpected — a visual experience that inspires curiosity, conversation, and a deeper appreciation of art.
For me, exhibiting my work is not simply about placing photographs on walls.
It is also about meeting people, sharing artistic ideas, and creating opportunities for cultural exchange.
I would be pleased to consider various exhibition formats, including small temporary exhibitions, longer-term displays, collaborative art events, or even a permanent selection of photographs.
Perhaps you have a café with an empty wall.
Perhaps you operate a wine bar where art would complement the atmosphere.
Or perhaps you know someone who manages a suitable space.
If you think my photography might be a good fit for your venue, I would be delighted to hear from you.
Even an informal suggestion or introduction would be greatly appreciated.

My Philosophy
I believe that art should not exist only within museums and galleries.
Art can also become a natural part of everyday life — in places where people meet, share a drink, enjoy conversation, and discover something beautiful.
I am inspired by the tradition of the French salon, where art, culture, and human connection come together.
I hope to find people who share this spirit and would enjoy bringing fine art photography into their own spaces.
I look forward to hearing from anyone interested in creating such an opportunity together.
